The 20 mile meal

Posted: October 14, 2014 in Uncategorized

These photos are from last night’s dinner, the 20 mile meal. This effort was the idea of a local OC reporter who enlisted help from a local chef to create an entire meal with items grown, gathered, foraged, hunted, and farmed within a 20 mile radius of Orange, CA.

It was a most amazing meal! Others brought water from a local spring, veggies from their gardens, salt from the ocean, lobster, foraged nuts, foraged pepper, and chiles. We donated quail, rabbit, goat milk, kale, squash, onions, and various herbs. One can have one hell of a feast with the offerings of Orange County.

‘Twas quite the extravagant meal! Let me know if you want to do any foraged-for-farmed trades. sabmail (at) sbcglobal.net

Most definitely! We have squash, kale, parsnips, and hopefully soon, watermelon. After the extravagant meal, we’re a little low on meat. 🙂 Oh, but, there are some tilapia.

Cool. When can I come over, and where do you live? I’ve got leached acorn meal, 3 kinds of fresh acorns, a bit of wild oat flour, bay nuts, prickly pears, and apples. Oh, and raccoon and jackrabbit! It’ll be just like old days – mountain people trading with the valley people!

Yes, that meal was amazing! Let me know if you want to trade any farmed food for my foraged food. sabmail at sbcglobal.net
